It is essential that the successful candidate is educated to HNC/Foundation Degree level or Degree level in a Scientific/Engineering discipline (or equivalent) and;
Has technical knowledge at a foundation level in battery materials and evidence of technical problem solving.
Can demonstrate the ability to apply scientific or engineering methods within standard practices, knowing when to seek guidance.
Can demonstrate evidence of and bring experience of collaboration, communication, and contributing to team-based problem solving.
It would also be advantageous if the successful candidate had a membership with a relevant professional body or had willingness to work towards chartered status and has;
Expertise in synthesis, characterisation, formulation, or processing of battery materials.
Knowledge or experience in inorganic chemistry or energy materials.
Evidence of knowledge sharing, network building, and supporting others.
CPI has an exciting opportunity for a motivated Research Scientist to join it’s Sustainable Materials team, part of the wider Formulation Technology Team, based at the National Formulation Centre in Sedgefield.
Contributing to the delivery of innovative R&D projects focused on battery and energy materials, the successful candidate will work under the technical supervision of senior colleagues, supporting experimental design, laboratory work, analysis, and reporting. This role is ideal for early‑career scientists eager to develop hands-on expertise in a cutting‑edge technical environment.

Key tasks
Key tasks in the role will include:
Setting up, planning, and executing experimental or pilot-scale runs, analysing and interpreting results to agreed standards.
Delivering well-documented technical records, including data, methodologies, calculations and software usage.
Maintaining consistent compliance with all relevant Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) requirements.
Presenting and formally reporting experimental conclusions for internal review and client submission.
Contributing to hazard studies and discussions appropriate to role level.
Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Supporting general housekeeping of technical areas to contribute to a safe workplace.
