We are seeking a motivated Scientist 2 – Proteomics to join our dynamic analytical team. within the national biologics manufacturing centre in Darlington to support the Next-Generation Cancer Diagnostics programme (NG-Dx). NG-Dx is a strategic initiative led by CPI in the UK, aimed at accelerating the development and adoption of advanced, multi-omics-based technologies for early cancer detection.

This role is ideal for someone with foundational proteomics knowledge who is keen to develop hands‑on expertise in LC‑MS/MS workflows and support high‑impact programs across discovery and development. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment alongside protein scientists, bioinformaticians, and process development teams to deliver high‑quality mass spectrometry data that informs decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

Proteomics & mass spectrometry
  • Perform sample preparation for LC‑MS/MS analyses, including lysis, protein digestion, desalting, and peptide cleanup.

  • Support operation of mass spectrometers (e.g. Orbitrap, Q‑TOF) and nano‑LC systems.

  • Conduct routine instrument QC, calibration, and basic troubleshooting.

  • Assist in developing and optimising proteomic and peptide mapping workflows for biologics characterisation.

Data processing & interpretation
  • Data processing using software such as Proteome Discoverer, and DIA-NN.

  • Perform peptide/protein identification and quantification.

  • Contribute to clear and concise data summaries for internal reports, cross‑functional project meetings and to external stakeholders.

Cross‑functional collaboration
  • Collaborate across teams to deliver project milestones and continuous improvement

  • Participate in experimental planning and optimisation discussions.

  • Providing mentoring and training to junior team members
